Sounds like you were set up nicely. That happens sometimes I guess. I too use both reeds and hoochie mamas. I personally like the reeds better. Leave both my hands free for the bow. Once the bull starts getting close, I start calling when he bugles. He bugles, I wait a few seconds, and then call and then wait for him to bugle again. Once he is in view and can see what he is doing I will also call if he looks away or acts like he wants to run. Just a few techniques I have tried and they have work good so far. There is definitely no set way to call. Every bull acts different.
